Floral Krobo glass beads from Ghana //

The oldest powder glass beads were found in what is now Zimbabwe. They were dated to the years 970 – 100 BC. Dated. Nowadays the powder glass beads are mainly made in West Africa, especially in Ghana by the Ashanti and Krobo craftsmen. The glass beads still play an important role in the Krobo tradition in rituals of birth, coming of age, marriage or death. The powder glass beads are then hand-painted again with glass paints.
